Although the content and topics were serious, the goal of the platform was to strengthen the connections in the community and dispel the stigmas that often prevent important conversations from happening. To achieve this, the client requested that we explore what a version of this platform could look like if we diverged from traditional presentations of ‘heavy’ topics and instead developed something approachable, engaging and thought provoking.
CNECTing by Not 9 to 5
The Not9To5 Organization supports the hospitality, food and drink community by providing tools and services that connect, assist and normalize the experience of industry workers and the potential struggles they face in a world designed for 9to5’ers. They approached us with a vision and a framework for a new e-learning platform that would become a resource for those struggling with mental health and addiction. This was to be the first Canadian program of its kind, and we knew it would have a huge impact on the lives of many.

The Not9to5 Organization had a clear vision in mind for a new platform that authentically represented the end user throughout. By the people, for the people. To capture this, We collaborated with the team to identify illustration styles, fonts and colours that would resonate with the community, while also pushing the envelope to create something new.
The rebel school-house inspiration that heavily influenced the creative direction of the platform grew organically, as we learned more about the experiences and personalities of our clients in the hospitality industry. A sense of humor, a sense of pride and a sense of activism were clear and present in our collaborations – We believe those sentiments needed to come through the final product.
The CNECting brand system features a bold monochrome logomark, offset by a vibrant colour palette and more-is-more graphic library. Although the message is serious, the presentation is intentionally loud. The result? A flexible brand system that serves as a solid foundation for a platform that is nothing short of a conversation starter.
